VOL. 1 – DECOLONIAL AESTHETICS, ONTOLOGIES AND EPISTEMOLOGIES
edited by Tomás Cajueiro and Estevão Bosco
Visual Narratives, Aesthetics and Decoloniality: Imagery and the Construction of the ‘Other’ brings together, across two volumes, reflections on the role of images and visual narratives in shaping for- ms of alterity. This first volume places theoretical debates on visuality at the center of contemporary debates on coloniality and its contestations. Bringing together scholars from diverse geographical and disciplinary contexts, the volume examines the multiple – and often seemingly innocuous – ways through which images participate in the production of power, knowledge, and social imaginaries. More than analyzing representations, the chapters invite readers to question the structures that shape ways of seeing and making meaning, opening space for plural epistemologies and new possibilities for imagining the contemporary world. How can visual narratives help us under- stand, question, and reimagine alterity?
